Pulau Yu Besar & Pulau Yu Kecil Dive Sites.

Exploration Dives 2010 at Batu Putih.
Pulau Yu consist of 2 small islands located about 25 kilometers from Merang. There is not much information about these tiny uninhabited islands, but we have been diving here regularly for the past 3 years now. We would like to introduce the unique beauty & mystery of Pulau Yu to more divers. At this moment they are 3 dive sites that we would dive on day trip visits.
1. Batu Putih ( Pulau Yu Kecil )
2. Northern Tip ( Pulau Yu Kecil )
3. Tanjung ( Pulau Yu Besar )
Geographically this island is surrounded by big boulders slopes dropping to 20-30 meters. There is no beach, landing ground or development on the island making it difficult to get on the island ( unless you're a keen climber ). The only visitors to the island are fishermen from Pulau Redang & Merang, making the island very pristine and untouched.
Not many divers that have had the opportunity to dive at Pulau Yu, this gives you the chance to experience the adventure of exploring a new & remote dive site. To dive at Pulau Yu we will use our dive boat "Bintang Laut" for a day trip visits.

Dive Sites info
Expect blue & clear water here especially during June,July & September. Current is also a big factor on planning your dives here.
Batu Putih
Depth : 18 - 30 meters
The pinnacle in between the two island makes it difficult for inexperienced DM or boat captain to locate without a GPS navigation guidance. Divers will descend on top of the reef at depth of around 6 meters. As we descend further you can see boulders covered with Dead Man Finger soft corals & staghorns. It's a huge reef & we start the dive deep at around 25 meters and then slowly ascend along the reef to 10 meters whilst swimming in between large schools of fusiliers & damselfishes there. Healthy sea fans & Dendronepthya soft coral can be seen in almost every corner. It's also quite common to see Eagle Rays here...sometimes in a school!
Pelagics such as Tunas, Big Eye Jacks & Barracudda's can be seen here on mild flooding tide out in the blue. Divers are also advised to keep looking up & sides as this spot is also known for visiting Whale Sharks.

Northern Tip
Depth : 10 - 25 meters Slopes & boulders are the attraction here along with reefishes. A good site to look for nudibranchs here as divers move slowly along the mild current. Trevallies will come & investigate the divers' bubble as we ascend to shallower area. You can also see a variety of angelfish species here. |

Batu Putih soft corals.
Tanjung
Depth : 10 - 20 meters
A huge boulder makes a perfect entry point reference and as we descend to 15 meters, a school of Bigeye Snapper awaits. There are healthy staghorn corals in this dive site, it's also a good spot to find nurse shark under crevices. A small school of Humphead Parrotfish are among the resident fish at this reef. It's a suitable site for an easy shallow dive and also great for snorkelling.
